France: Central Pyrenees

I first visited the central Pyrenees, the area known as Ariege, in 2000, and haven’t relaxed since, so much that I’ve returned  4 more times. The simplicity of the surroundings, the honesty of local residents and the wild beauty of the region simply captured my heart. The Pyrenees, on the French side, enjoy an inconceivable amount of water, and you are escorted on the way by a constant sound of dripping water, green scenery and powerful and challenging mountains.Quiet roads, little traffic, roadside cafes, lots of bike riders and an ongoing celebration. This is the essence of the area and what we’ll experience on our trip.
We’ll fly to Barcelona and transfer to the village of Saint Girons, where we will be based for the week’s journey. We will depart, always escorted by vehicle, on 6 days of circular riding, including a fabulous day riding the legendary  Col du Tourmalet and Col de Peyresourde.
